Carlos Emanuelle Vela-Prado and Claudia Kaatziza Cortínez (b. 1984, 1985 respectively) are a New York-based duo who’s work relates the trace of objects and locations to a human presence and is concerned with the language of memory articulated through photography, video, and sculpture. Using a constellation of interrelating images and protagonists, their work maps a space marked by histories both personal and imagined. Carlos and Claudia approach visual art as a way to draw on the historical, cultural, and poetic metaphors of their immediate experiences. Often as fragments of a greater narrative, they are guided by the presence of light passing and slowing until the immaterial becomes familiar.
